About Dr. Bowes

Shauna Bowes, PhD is a postdoctoral fellow at Vanderbilt University. As a clinician, Dr. Bowes has experience providing outpatient psychotherapy across the lifespan and has worked in intensive outpatient settings with adolescents and adults. Her specialties include the treatment of anxiety disorders (generalized, social, panic, phobias) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). She also offers services for depression, life transitions and adjustments, emotion dysregulation, and parent training. Her doctoral education and training were completed at Emory University.

Dr. Bowes adopts a client-centered approach to therapy that is rooted in evidence-based techniques. She primarily utilizes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) approaches. She also draws from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical-Behavior Therapy (DBT). In her work with parents, Dr. Bowes received training in “The Incredible Years” and SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) parenting programs. She has implemented these interventions in hospital and counseling center settings.

Dr. Bowes believes that showing up in therapy is the first brave step in the healing journey! She views the therapist and client as a team, and works to help you better understand yourself and your values. She strives to honor your choices, embolden you to use your voice, and help you take steps toward living a more value-driven life.
